Why I am writing this blog entry:

I am writing this blog entry based on research I performed to find the Print on demand (POD) sites to post my art, photography, and home décor works on. One thing that I learned, based on my research, is that many of the POD services utilize the same 3rd party production labs, so, in many cases, quality of your prints, clothing, and home décor will not vary based on manufacturing practices but costs to you and your customers will vary based on the platforms mark ups and membership fees. So the question remains “what are the 10 best sites to aid in the sales of my products”.

A little housekeeping before we start:

I decided before writing this article to not include any affiliate links into this entry. While I could have, I choose not to, to maintain the integrity of the writing. All ads on this page are automatically generated by Magenet and/or Google AdWords. Any ads for a service provider listed in this article should not be considered a direct endorsement of one service over another.

One additional thought. A POD service should not be the beginning and the end of your marketing efforts. While a high ranking POD service can assist you to generate sales in markets that you would otherwise have difficulty reaching if you want true success in promoting and selling your artwork, images, and home décor it will take more work than selecting a POD service and hoping for sales. It will take time, effort, and additional marketing to generate stable sales of your works.

The rankings:

I evaluated the 10 most popular POD services. The first chart illustrates the popularity of the site in comparison to all websites (art based or not) worldwide. The smaller the shaded area the closer the site is to the #1 most popular website worldwide (incidentally the #1 site in the world is Google, if you were wondering).  I will explain the rankings with the information on each POD platform or service.

The second chart is searchable keywords. The reason this is important is the more indexed keywords a site or platform has the more likely it is that your work will be found by potential buyers of your products. One would think that a site with a high volume of visitors would also have a high volume of searchable keywords. As this chart shows this is not necessarily the case.

searchable Keywords

The third chart is search engine clicks. Search engine clicks to determine what kind of potential reach you can experience from leads generated by a search engine. This would be leads generated outside of your marketing activity. Higher numbers show higher potential for sales not solely generated by your marketing activity.

A word of Caution:

Now that you know what the top websites are I want to issue a word of caution. Many artists list works on multiple sites. This is fine but one thing you will want to make sure of is that you keep your pricing the same over all the sites in which you list your works. Make no mistake with today’s technology it is easy to find your works and find a variant in price if it exists. If a buyer can find your exact same work on one site cheaper than on another site they will buy it from the less expensive site.

I hope you found this information helpful. If you did please share this article with your artist friends and/or on social media.
